Behaviour
At Higher Bebington Junior School, our Behaviour and Relationships Policy is rooted in The HBJS Way. Guided by our vision, Together We Achieve, we are committed to creating a calm, respectful and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued and able to thrive.
We believe behaviour is not simply something to manage but something to teach and nurture. Through our clear expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Safe, we help children understand how their choices affect themselves and others. Using a consistent, restorative approach we support pupils to reflect, repair and grow with the aim of strengthening relationships across our school community. Together, we build a culture where high expectations, kindness and belonging sit at the heart of everything we do.
The policy is focused on praise and attention to the children who are making positive choices, showing the behaviours we want to see across the school and going above and beyond. All adults in school will be looking for the children demonstrating these behaviours.
We will praise and reinforce these by:
• Sending postcards home
• Phoning or speaking face to face with parents/carers about their child’s positive behaviour
• Praising the child immediately
We have simplified our school rules to 3:
Ready
e.g. Being ready to learn, to listen to teacher or each other, having the right equipment for PE etc.
Respectful
e.g. Being respectful to each other, to adults, of property etc.
Safe
e.g. Being safe at playtimes and lunchtimes, be aware of risks, being safe in our actions towards each other etc.
Adults use these words when they praise behaviours and when they remind children what behaviour they are looking for. The children also know that ALL adults means everyone- our TA’s, our office staff, our cleaners, our Midday Assistants, our site managers, the adults who run clubs-not just the teachers.
Please see the policy below for further information.
