OPAL

What is OPAL?

OPAL is an award-winning mentor supported school improvement programme that addresses all the areas that schools must plan for if they want to strategically and sustainably improve the quality of their play opportunities.

OPAL is the only programme of its kind that has been independently proven to sustainably improve the quality of play in British primary schools. Its success comes from a series of interrelated actions undertaken with the specialist support from an OPAL mentor. This embeds play into school’s policies and practices and establishes clear guiding principles and strategies for initiating changes at playtimes. The results can be transformational in even the more challenging school environments.

Last year, we were delighted to learn that our school has been awarded the Platinum OPAL Award for Play – the highest level of recognition from the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) programme.

This award reflects our dedication to making playtimes exciting, inclusive and full of opportunities for every child. Through OPAL, we have transformed our play spaces into creative, adventurous and joyful environments, where children can explore, imagine and thrive every day.

We are so proud of this achievement and look forward to continuing to develop our play provision for the benefit of all our pupils.
